Missing Miss Maya

Applause of two thousand hands

Pattered like raindrops:

Tears of joy and loss today.

Dear Doctor Maya transitioned.

She finished this Way-Too-White-Girl

Piece of Work in 1964.

And I followed her since,

Well most of my life.

She still watches me:

Her image is taped to my desk.

My bum is sore from sitting

In Gratitude for her

Televised memorial

As family and friends recall

One Monumental Woman,

This God-Given Rainbow

In our lives.

We are Touched by an Angel!

And I have it on good authority:

President Clinton said

God loaned her His Voice

And now God wants it back!
